Kites

The kites documented here were created during a residency at the Art Gallery of Windsor in Ontario Canada. This part of my research into kites leading up to a residency in New Plymouth New Zealand where I will be applying the knowledge and skills learned to the creation of a hybrid electronic kite.

Eddy Kite
classic Eddy Bow kite.
materials: dowels, string frame, pastic garbage bag, clear packing tape.
dimensions: 36"x 34"
I found out after this photo was taken that it flys perfectly without a tail. As per the orginal design.

TigaKat Kite
another trapizoid kite with a bow tail.
The small one was so much fun to fly, I scaled up the dimensions to make this one.
materials: crushed packing paper, dowels, craft glue, string frame, Krylon spray paint.

English pear Top Kite
based on an English Pear Top.
I recycled some fiberglass and carbon rods from a commercial store display kite.
materials: asian craft paper, craft glue, Sevelon line frame, graphite and fiberglass rods.

Hazmat Kite
My own design after making several kites from published plans. This kite also has a concept behind it.
material: Tyvek, graphite fly fishing rod blanks, yellow plastic "attention" tape, wooden dowel.
